Show #4
Do It Yourself/Duet Yourself
David Gunn

From famous radio station WGDR, the voice of the German Democratic Republic, it's Kalvos & Damian's New Music Sesquihour, broadcasting today from Plain Talking, Vermont. Today's episode, entitled, "Do It Yourself/Duet Yourself," features music of specially built instruments, as well as music of two parts. We'll also play plenty of new music -- not necessarily your favorites, but these things happen -- we'll try again to inaugurate "Avant-Talk," in which we take your calls and answer questions about problems you may be having with new music. We have another new music quiz, a spontaneous station ID on the hour, more announcements which follow directly, plus another item, which I forget. Unfortunately, we have no special guest Vermont composer with us today. As much as Bob Zimmerman begged us to be on, he's still a Minnesotan and doesn't qualify. However, we do have music of Vermont composers, some of which even figure into today's theme.

But first, Kalvos & Damian present Avant-Announcements, the first of which concerns recorded copies of our show.

If you'd like a souvenir copy of today's program, Program #4, just hold a microphone up to your radio speaker and press the record button on your tape recorder. Not the play button or the fast forward button or the eject button or the elapsed time button on the microwave. They won't work. Perhaps you know someone with photographic memory syndrome, known to medical malpractitioners the world over as le flambeau oriange. Simply have him or her listen to our program, then you can quiz that person later and enjoy the show without having to hold a microphone in your hand for 90 minutes.

In another matter, we received word that our signal was received last week by a person who had an alien transmitter implanted in her molar, and this is indeed welcome news. It's nice to know we're being picked up by members of the reality-challenged community.

Last week's New Music Sesquihour, you may or may not recall, was surprisingly pleased to pay tribute to the opening of bass fishing season in Vermont. With guest Vermont composer T.L. Read watching carefully, two utterly new works written especially for this time-honored event were premiered on the show, one of which I fail to recall due to tangential interference from Mr. Read. The other, "Double Whammy,", by David Gunn, was scored for four bassoons -- as in BASSoons -- in case nobody got the joke. There. Glad to have cleared that up at last.

And now, with this week's installment of the continuing new music saga, here's Mr. Box-o-LPs himself, Kal ... no, Damius.
